Leg 4 saw us travel from Goosebay CFB (CYYR) to foreign shores for the first time, as we flew east to Narsarsuaq Airport (BGBW) in the south of Greenland. This was a longer flight, closing in on almost 700nm, with 42 pax on board cruising at FL290 our block time for this leg was 2 hours and change.

Narsarsuaq Airport (BGBW) is another airport that was built in the WW2 era. It was actually built by the United States' Department of Defense. The airport has declined in traffic in recent years, with talks of it closing in the future, apparently to be replaced by an airport nearby in Qaqortoq.
I chose BGBW as it was the closest hop eastward toward Europe, and did require clearance through Gander Oceanic, although not a traditional track clearance. The runway at BGBW is around 6000 feet long and seemed like it would be more than than enough for the CRJ. What I wasn't prepared for was the approach!

An extremely narrow channel to the runway surrounded by peaks averaging 3000 to 4000 feet made this a very challenging approach, I unfortunately came in too fast on my initial and had to do a go-around for a second attempt.
Thankfully second time was a charm, and despite a harder landing (over -350ftpm), all rubber was on the ground.
Next we looked to Iceland!
